A door or window sensor is not compliant merely because a supplier sends a PDF bearing FCC, CE or UKCA artwork. The file needs to map to the product that will actually ship: model, hardware revision, radio module, antenna, power arrangement, firmware where relevant, label and intended market. A new enclosure, different radio module or unreviewed firmware feature can require the compliance route to be checked again.

FCC: classify the radio before you market or import
The FCC states that radio-frequency devices subject to its equipment-authorization rules must meet the relevant technical requirements before importation or marketing. The first task is therefore classification, not label design: identify the radio technologies, frequencies, module/antenna arrangement and product configuration, then confirm the applicable authorization procedure with qualified support. For an OEM buyer, ask whether the proposed product uses a pre-authorized module, what the final host product obligations are, and what changes have been reviewed. A supplier should not answer that question with an image of a logo. Request the exact model identifiers, report or authorization references where applicable, label requirements and a written escalation path if the antenna, firmware or radio hardware changes.
EU: CE marking for radio equipment is a RED conformity process
Wireless smart-home equipment placed on the EU market is commonly assessed under the Radio Equipment Directive (RED), Directive 2014/53/EU. RED addresses essential requirements that include health and safety, electromagnetic compatibility and efficient use of radio spectrum. Once the appropriate conformity route has demonstrated compliance, the manufacturer prepares the EU Declaration of Conformity, keeps technical documentation and affixes the CE marking. These duties are set out in the official RED text.
The procurement implication is simple: preserve the evidence chain. The declaration must identify the radio equipment type; the technical file must correspond to the configured product; the label, instructions and traceability data must match the market version. Where the product also has other applicable requirements, manage them in the same controlled file rather than treating the CE mark as a one-document shortcut.
Great Britain: assess CE, UKCA and UK rules at the time you place the product on the market
Great Britain uses the Radio Equipment Regulations 2017. The UK Government's current guidance explains manufacturer duties, record retention, CE/UKCA choices and the difference between Great Britain and Northern Ireland. It also states that, in the circumstances described in the guidance, manufacturers using self-declaration may affix CE or UKCA before placing radio equipment on the GB market. Check the current Great Britain radio-equipment guidance for the exact route; recognition and marking policies can change.
Do not collapse Northern Ireland into the GB decision. The market, conformity-assessment body and marking combination can matter. Establish the sale destination first, then approve the declaration, artwork and instructions for that route.
