Start with the boot version, not an assumed conversion

This hiking boot size chart buyer guide is for importers and distributors preparing a market-specific footwear listing. Seawing SKU 43 is the catalogue reference for suede-and-fabric hiking boots. Its supplied material record lists a suede cow-leather and fabric upper, a supplier-described waterproof sock liner, a rubber/PU composite outsole and sand/khaki colours. These descriptors identify the offered construction; they do not establish a size range, width option or measured fit. Name the exact option and revision in every request.

Create separate records for the customer's foot and the finished footwear. A heel-to-longest-toe foot measurement describes a person; an internal-length measurement describes a defined part of a shoe under a stated method. A removable insole has its own outline and measurement endpoints. Do not label all three simply as centimetres. Ask the supplier which input its size chart expects, whether any allowance is already incorporated, and how each size label maps to that input. Never add another brand's allowance to an unexplained chart.

An importer also needs a controlled handoff between supplier, sample reviewer and listing editor. Record market, channel, intended customer group and quantities by proposed size as buyer requirements, not evidence that these options are offered. Ask for the actual available size set, last/version identifier, width definitions and chart revision. If the upper, lining, footbed or last changes, ask which fit records must be reassessed before retaining earlier advice. Keep performance and destination-market document review separate from sizing approval.

  • Product reference: SKU 43; identify the exact offered option and revision.
  • Foot length, internal shoe length and insole length are different fields.
  • A size conversion is publishable only with its stated system, scope and version-specific basis.

Five fields a usable boot size chart should explain

Use this as a request matrix, not a numeric size chart. The supplier should complete the fields for the actual offered version and identify the method behind each value.

Five fields a usable boot size chart should explain
FieldQuestion to sendRecord to requestDecision boundary
Size designationWhich EU, UK, US or other system and customer group is used?Version-linked size labels, offered sizes and chart dateThe same number does not imply the same fit across systems or brands
Foot measurementsHow are foot length and width measured, with which units and conditions?Diagram, endpoints, standing/sock conditions and measurement instructionsFoot width is not automatically ball girth or shoe width
Finished bootWhat does internal length or width measure and how is it obtained?Defined method, instrument, measurement location and toleranceInternal dimensions are not foot measurements
Removable insoleIs the insole measured flat, and between which endpoints?Size-linked outline and separate insole measurement recordInsole length alone does not establish usable toe space or fit
Fit and conversionHow were label mappings and recommendations checked?Labelled samples, fitting conditions, observations and approved wordingNo universal EU/UK/US table or automatic size-up rule

Keep three measurement records connected

Foot

Record length, width and the measurement conditions for the intended customer brief.

Footwear

Identify the boot version and distinguish internal dimensions from the removable insole.

Size advice

Link the chart to labelled samples and a documented fitting review before publication.

These two independent site catalogue photographs show a pair of SKU 43 boots and another outsole-facing arrangement. The cover is a separate side-view photograph. None includes a foot measurement, calibrated internal measurement or fitting trial; image proportions cannot supply a size chart.

Prepare an importer fit packet that can be reviewed

Ask for one row per offered size and width version, with the chart revision attached. Keep proposed market sizing labels separate from confirmed supplier labels. During sample review, record the sample identifier, both feet's measurements, socks, any orthotic or replacement footbed, lacing and observed heel/forefoot/toe issues. A fitting observation is specific to those conditions and wearer; it is not a promise for every customer. Agree who approves customer-facing advice and which changes reopen that approval.

Use original sizing guidance within its scope

ISO 9407:2019 describes Mondopoint as a designation based on defined foot measurements; ISO's public record says the edition was confirmed in 2026. Its scope helps distinguish foot-based sizing from an unexplained shoe measurement. This guide used the public abstract, not the paid full standard, and does not claim SKU 43 conforms to it. REI's original fitting guide and HANWAG's manufacturer advice explain why measurement conditions, socks and model/last context matter. Their brand charts, fit allowances and customer recommendations are not Seawing size data.

The uvex Mondopoint tool is an example of a manufacturer's explicitly scoped size and width record. It concerns uvex safety footwear; neither its numbers nor its protective classification applies to SKU 43. Together these sources support questions about methods and document scope, not a borrowed conversion table. A waterproof or tactical product name likewise does not establish a measured protection level, safety-footwear/PPE classification, slip resistance or certification. Request applicable evidence for any proposed claim separately.

Review the boot and request its version-specific size brief

Open SKU 43 and send the exact version, destination market, channel, quantity and proposed size mix. Attach the measurement matrix and ask for the supplier's chart, methods and sample identifiers. The deliverable is a reviewable connection between labels, measurements and fitting observations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can another brand's EU/UK/US chart be used for this boot?

No. Request the selected version's sizing system, customer-group scope, label mapping and supporting method. A shared size label does not establish equivalent dimensions or fit.

Is foot length the same as insole length?

No. Foot length describes the wearer; insole length measures a separate component. Ask which input the supplier's chart expects and whether its recommendation already includes an allowance.

Does a width label prove a specific foot width?

Only within its documented definition. Request whether width refers to foot breadth, girth, last or internal shoe dimensions, with method, units, location and version.

Should every customer automatically buy a larger size?

Do not publish a universal rule. Reconcile the selected chart with labelled samples and recorded wearer, sock, footbed and fitting conditions. Do not add another brand's allowance.

Does the tactical or waterproof name establish PPE status?

No. Product wording and photographs do not establish a safety-footwear class, measured waterproofness, slip resistance or certification. Review matching product-specific documents separately.

What belongs in an importer size enquiry?

Include SKU/version, market, channel, customer group, quantity and proposed size mix. Request the offered sizes, chart revision, foot/internal/insole methods, width definitions and labelled samples.
